ABOUT
Ssozi Joseph
A Ugandan filmmaker, sound recordist, and conservation storyteller who uses film, sound, and creative media to document biodiversity, preserve cultural heritage, and amplify African stories.
With over a decade of experience in film, audio production, and multimedia storytelling, his work explores the intersections of nature, culture, people, and heritage, grounded in ethical storytelling and a deep care for communities and the environment.
He is a co- founder of Gorilla Creatives Inc, a multidisciplinary creative collective dedicated to conserving and archiving African art, culture, and indigenous species through media, and Gorilla Tapes Co. Limited, an audio-visual production company producing films, documentaries, photography, podcasts, audiobooks, music, and digital content.
Ssozi created the Birds of Uganda Podcast, documenting the country’s birdlife through field recordings, bird calls, and cultural stories, and is the Executive Producer of Sauce of the Nile Vol.1, a music and film project celebrating the musical traditions and natural and cultural textures of Busoga in Eastern Uganda. Through these sound-led projects, he seeks to preserve Uganda’s natural and cultural heritage while inspiring conservation and connecting local stories with wider audiences.

Beyond his creative work, Ssozi is passionate about community development and empowering young people. He co-founded Gorilla Hoops Academy in Kamuli District, Eastern Uganda, a community basketball initiative serving children and young adults. Guided by the motto Beyond Basketball, the academy combines sports with education support and life-skills development, creating opportunities for young people to build confidence, discipline, leadership, and brighter futures.
A certified bird guide and nature interpreter, Ssozi continues to work at the intersection of media, conservation, cultural preservation, and youth development. Through storytelling, mentorship, and community engagement, he is committed to preserving heritage, nurturing emerging talent, and creating meaningful opportunities for people and the environment to thrive.
